Notes following WEEK 4

PARENT CONFERENCES - Conferences are the week of September 26.  Many of you have already signed up - thank you!  If you have not yet signed up, please use the link on the home page to 'signup.com'.

PHONICS - This week we will learn the sounds/spellings:  ar, ck, short u and z.  Our students did great on the phonics test on Friday.  I will be giving a pre-test each Wednesday.  If a student gets everything correct on the pre-test, then s/he gets to have 'silent free choice' on Friday instead of taking the test again.

Keep reading those white books and yellow word lines at home.  I can't emphasize this enough :)

LANGUAGE ARTS - Our focus this coming week is using proper grammar when speaking and writing.  We are also working on writing narratives.

MATH - Unit 2, subtraction, continues this week.  They took a quiz that will be coming home on Monday.  Many students are struggling with lessons 2-5 and 2-6.  We will be reviewing these concepts at school, but please help by reviewing at home too.

SCIENCE - We will begin our science unit on light and dark.

P.E. - Our students will be learning how to play tether-ball this week.

HOMEWORK - I sent home a 'home-link' from our 'Second Step' Program.  Please complete the paper with your student.  This year, Glenmeade is teaching students about how to learn to be good students.  Our first few lessons are about learning how to be good listeners.

MISC - Picture Day is Tuesday.
Glenmeade is having a paper drive.  If you can purchase and send in a ream of
paper we would really appreciate it.
Chuck E Cheese PTA fundraiser on Wed from 3 - 9.

Have a great week!!
