Notes following WEEK 5
PARENT CONFERENCES - Conferences are the week of September 26. Many of you have already signed up - thank you! If you have not yet signed up, please use the link on the home page to 'signup.com'.
PHONICS - This week we will learn the sounds/spellings: / l/, short e spelled e and ea, and /y/ (like yellow).
Keep reading those white books and yellow word lines at home. Reading them regularly will help your child become better readers. Accelerated Reader (AR) will begin this week. Look for STAR test results coming home. If your child is ready to take a test, please be sure s/he has the book with them so they can refer to it if needed. AR is about comprehension, not memorization.
LANGUAGE ARTS - This week we will begin using science in our Language Arts lessons. We begin a unit on Light and dark.
MATH - The topic 2 test was tough. I will be returning this test at Parent Conferences. Unit three is about using 'ten frames' so that students can begin to see relationships between numbers. Please review the classwork with your student before s/he begins homework and then be sure to make sure they did the homework correctly.
SCIENCE - We will begin our science unit on light and dark (bumped from last week).
P.E. - Our students will be running on M, W and F.
HOMEWORK - Please be sure that the reading log reflects at least 20 minutes of reading each night. Spelling activities must be signed off each night.
MISC - Blood Drive in memory of Andrewson Tapia is on Thurs. Please come and donate.
We could really use some paper ream donations. Thanks in advance.
Please send in $10 to join PTA. It is important for our school.
Do you want a UCI tee shirt for your child? $$ is due on Monday.
Chuck E. Cheese was fun! Thanks to all who came to support Glenmeade.
Have a great week!!
