WEEK 1

We had a great first week of first grade!  Thanks to everyone who sent supplies.

PHONICS - We reviewed the sounds /m/, /s/, short a, /n/, /r/, short i, and /p/, and /t/.  Our first white book went home on Wednesday.  Have your student read these books often - they will help build reading confidence.

MATH - Last week we reviewed kindergarten standards and began our 'Number Talks' lessons.

SCIENCE - The solar eclipse has been our big topic.  We have watched videos about the sun the earth and the moon.  On Friday we watched a video about how looking at the sun can damage your eyes and we made a craft replica of the rotations of the sun, earth and moon.

EXPECTATIONS - During the first few weeks of school we spend a bunch of time going over expectations.  We attended a behavior assembly on Friday morning.

SNACK - Our students get very hungry by the 10 am recess.  Please send a small, healthy snack with them each day so they get the 'brain fuel' they need.  :)

DISMISSAL - Beginning Monday, students will be released from the classroom at dismissal time - I will not be keeping them until they see their parent/caregiver.  Make sure your student knows where they should go after school.  There is supervision out front and if you bring your car to pick up your student, they can stand and wait out front until you pull up.  If you are late, you will find your student in the office waiting.

I am scheduled to be at an NGSS science training on Tuesday and Wednesday and will be out of the classroom.  We have a great sub - our class will be in good hands.

It's been a fun week getting to know your students.  Thanks for having great kids!
